Getting Started
-
We currently offer support in English and maths from Year 1 to Year 6. Each programme is closely aligned with the National Curriculum, using methods your child will recognise from school.
We also offer a programme for Reception children following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning goals.
-
Yes — our tutorials and worksheets are designed to reflect the language, structure, and progression of the National Curriculum for England. This means your child stays in step with their year group. Our ‘Reception’ programme follows the Early Years Foundation Stage learning goals.
-
Once you choose the right programme (our Selection Flowchart can help), you’ll have instant access to everything you need. Tutorials are short, pre-recorded videos you can pause, replay, and follow at your own pace. All supporting work is structured from 1-star to 3-star challenge, with answers, and is clear and easy to use.
If you’re using the Curriculum Steps Programme, we suggest setting aside around an hour a week to stay on track with the weekly tutorial releases. That way, learning feels consistent, never rushed and avoids the pressure of trying to catch up later.
All other programmes (Topic Bundles and the Refresher Programme) can be completed entirely within your own timings.
-
Absolutely! Our resources are designed to complement what your child is already doing - whether that’s schoolwork, tutoring, homework or revision. Many families find it useful as a bridge between school and home learning, giving parents more clarity and structure without being overwhelming. Children too find it builds their confidence to try the same learning at home, at their pace, and feel much more secure in the topics.
Overview of Programmes and General Questions
-
We believe confident parents make a big difference to a child’s progress and the more you understand about your child’s learning, the more supported and confident children feel. However, our tutorials include clear explanations, simple modelled strategies, and tips to help you support learning at home which, although aimed at parents, can also be watched and followed by children to guide them through the work.
Once a topic has been introduced and the video watched, many children enjoy working through the worksheets independently, gaining confidence first with the 1-star work.
-
Please view our sample tutorials and worksheets for a closer look click here. Each topic comes with worksheets at three levels of challenge (1-star, 2-star and 3-star) with answer sheets. They’re clear, colourful, and short enough to feel manageable. Within a tutorial, children should aim to be able to complete 2-star work with 3-star being more of a challenge. Many children actually enjoy completing the worksheets – and enjoy the challenge of trying the 3-star sheets!
-
Whilst older children can work through parts of the programme on their own, and watch the tutorials and complete the work independently, the programme works best as a shared experience when parents are also aware of the learning and methods used in the videos, so that you can explain and support learning confidently.
Questions on our Programmes
-
There are a few simple ways to spot where your child may need extra support:
Check your child’s school report or notes from parent-teacher meetings — teachers often highlight specific areas to focus on.
Your child might mention topics they’re finding tricky or frustrating at school.
You may notice gaps in homework, assessments, or general confidence with certain tasks.
Try our free topic quizzes on the website through the Topic Bundles page — they’re a quick way to see which levels your child can answer confidently and therefore where they are working.
If you’re using the Refresher Programme, it’s designed to reveal any weaker areas as you work through the topics which will direct you to certain topic bundles.
For a clearer picture, we offer a detailed assessment, which identifies learning gaps, current levels across different topic areas with a report and a recommendation for moving forward.
Still not sure? Just drop us an email (enquiries@tutoryourchild.co.uk ) or message us through the contact form available on our website - we’re happy to guide you.
-
Because each tutorial builds on the last, tutorials must be followed in order and we therefore recommend catching up as soon as you can. If you’re struggling to keep pace, you can switch to Topic Bundles and work through just the areas your child needs help with, at your own pace.
If your child is struggling to keep up because the content feels too challenging, we’d suggest starting a lower year group plan to secure the foundations first. We’re happy to transfer your plan or help you run two plans side by side. Just drop us an email (enquiries@tutoryourchild.co.uk ) or message us through the contact form available on our website - we’re happy to guide you.

Not at all. You’re free to pick and choose the topics that are most relevant to your child’s needs. If you’re using a Topic Bundle to fill gaps, just focus on the areas where they need extra practice. If you’re using it to consolidate, feel free to dip into anything that looks helpful or interesting.
-
Yes – this is recommended as each tutorial builds on the learning in the previous tutorial so even if you move through certain tutorials faster, always try to complete the 2-star work to make sure this area is secure. Experience shows us that missing out tutorials can lead to children still having insecure foundations and, particularly in maths, this can make future learning more difficult.
-
Yes – it is important to follow the methods shown in the videos. Your child may use a slightly different way at school, and it is fine to follow their school method but, tempting as it is to use adult known methods, this will not secure the deeper foundations of understanding that we are building through their primary learning.
Children’s learning follows three styles: concrete (using objects), pictorial (using picture representation) and abstract. If we jump to abstract too soon, using ‘learnt methods’ rather than ‘understanding’, future learning will not be built on as secure foundations.

Yes - many parents of children with additional needs find our structured, visual approach helpful. The worksheets are clear and manageable, with three levels of challenge, and you’re fully in control of pacing and content. You can watch the videos and break down the learning further to put you in control and also enable your child to feel success at their level. Many SEN children are better starting at a lower level to build their confidence and abilities. If you’d like guidance on where to start, feel free to get in touch by emailing us at enquiries@tutoryourchild.co.uk or completing the contact form.

To arrange a formal assessment, please send us an email to enquiries@tutoryourchild.co.uk or fill in our contact form, and let us know your telephone number. We will call you to talk through the details.

Each topic includes three levels of worksheet challenge, so you can adjust the difficulty based on how your child is doing. Start where they feel confident and move up if it feels too easy - or drop down a level if it feels tricky. The idea is to build confidence while still offering a gentle challenge.
If you find the 1-star work within a topic is too difficult, you may need to drop down to a lower year group for the topic (e.g. If your child is struggling with Year 3 Fractions, try Year 2 Fractions to build back the learning). Children will always learn faster when they start from where they are comfortable and build up. You can always try our short FREE quizzes as a guide to check your child’s level in a topic.
-
We know that active engagement is key to a child’s learning and progress. Children also like to be able to feel a sense of achievement and enjoy the feeling of success which encourages them to want to try more. Our videos include step-by-step activities, games, and helpful teaching tips to make learning enjoyable and effective. However, getting the right level for your child is key so they can feel this achievement and success. If you are unsure where to start, try our short FREE quizzes as a guide to check your child’s level in a topic. View these through our Topic Bundles page.
Our worksheets also come in three levels of challenge and are carefully designed to be colourful, clear, and manageable in length. Feedback tells us children find them appealing—but please take a look at example tutorials and worksheets through our links to sample tutorials.
Many of our parents say they also make a ‘special’ time of a tutoring session and take their child out for a hot chocolate to a coffee shop or similar and treat it as time together which makes it into an enjoyable shared time. Our worksheets also come in three levels of challenge and are carefully designed to be colourful, clear, and manageable in length.
